Success Stories
from the Field
Data Collection - Verification
| A large multicolor setup facility
was creating plates for a very large manufacturer of frozen foods.
In the past, whenever a bar code was present on the job to be
printed, know one realized that the bar code could be invalid and
therefore not scan when presented to a cashier.
The difference between a valid and invalid bar code is
sometimes not recognizable to the human eye.
Unfortunately the bar code was never verified and several
thousand packages were printed and shipped to retailers throughout the
country with incorrect bar codes. When the bar
code was scanned at the cash registers, the product would not scan.
Eventually the foods had to be repackaged at an enormous cost
to the setup facility. |
| Dynamic
Bar Code Systems sold the setup shop an RJS Inspector 3000
verifier to scan and verify the bar code symbology prior to signing
off on the plates and shipping them to a printer.
The customer also purchased an RJS Thermal Printer so they
could actually have a hard copy of the data and reliability of the bar
code.

The
Benefit |
| Prior to purchasing the verifier, the
customer was riding a wave of luck that no other bar codes being
printed were unreadable. In
this case, the purchase of a bar code verifier was a lot less
expensive than the cost of recreating the plates and reprinting
several thousand packages. To
the human eye, it is nearly impossible to recognize an unreadable bar
code. The verifier is a
vital piece of the bar code printing process.
