Label Print-Apply - Cost Savings

The Problem

A large distributor of fasteners was looking for a print-apply solution to streamline their current packaging system’s label printing system and the additional time and labor of having the labels applied to shipments by hand.   The company already has an existing Zebra printer and software.  The new system would have to use the existing software that is currently driving the Zebra printer.  Cost is a huge concern since the fastener industry is extremely competitive and overhead is not acceptable.

The Solution

Dynamic Bar Code Systems delivered a Tharo PA1000tZ Label Applicator with a Zebra Z4M thermal transfer printer for under $8000.  The Zebra Z4M was connected directly to the existing software using the ZebraLink Ethernet connection.  As the box of fasteners comes out of the taping unit, the sensor is triggered and the label is printed, and then automatically applied to the carton.  Then the carton travels down to be palletized and shipped to the customer.

The Benefit

The entire packaging department has a single person that stacks the labels cartons on the pallet, wraps the pallet with shrink wrap and has enough time to transport the completed pallet to a staging area.  In the past the person had to then label each carton before placing on the pallet and a second person would transport the completed pallet.
