Print-Apply - Integration
| A large manufacturer / distributor of dietary products
was looking for a label print-apply solution to replace their current
shipping system’s label printing system and the additional time and
labor of having the labels applied to shipments by hand, especially
since the dietary products business has exploded for the company.
The shipping system automatically printed the label with
the proper weight and shipping information to a Zebra printer.
The new system would have to use a Zebra printer but the
company was reluctant to spend $18,000 to $25,000 per unit for a Zebra
print engine with a label applicator from other suppliers. |
| Dynamic Bar Code
Systems delivered a Tharo PA1000tZ Label Applicator with a Zebra Z4M
thermal transfer printer for under $8000.
The Zebra Z4M was connected directly to the IBM AS/400 using
the ZebraLink Ethernet connection.
As the completed order was placed on the shipping conveyor, a
bar code label was scanned to match the carton with the completed
order. The shipping
system weigh the package, calculated the shipping charges and sent the
label information to the Zebra Z4m and the label was printed and
applied to the carton containing the completed order. |

integration between the shipping system and the completed order, the
company has seen a dramatic increase in order accuracy and overall
productivity. In the past
mistakes were made when the wrong shipping labels were applied to the
wrong orders and these mistakes became very costly to correct.
Now with the label print-apply system in place, the orders are
filled and labeled accurately and the customers happy. |
