Print and Apply - Stand Alone
| A large manufacturer of light bulbs was
looking for a solution to replace their current batch label printing
system and have the labels automatically applied to the cardboard
containers. The ideal situation would eliminate a computer and apply the
labels to the box after an automatic taping machine has sealed the
box.

Systems installed a Tharo PA1000t Label Applicator with an Apollo 3
thermal transfer printer. The
Apollo 3 printer was configured for stand-alone pulling label format,
database and graphical information from the onboard PCMCIA memory
card. The operator
selected the record number of the cartons to be labeled and entered
the number of labels to be printed based on the number of cartons.
Once the taping machine sealed the cartons and the carton
arrived at the labeling station, a switch was triggered to print and
apply the label to the carton. Once
the carton was labeled, a separate mechanism was triggered by a
command from the label applicator to push the carton off the conveyor
to a loading area.

| With the ability to automatically print and
then apply the labels, the company has noticed a dramatic increase in
the accuracy and productivity of completed cartons since the unit was
installed. In the past mistakes were made when the wrong labels were
applied to the wrong cartons. The
worker applying the labels was also responsible for taping and loading
the cartons onto pallets. Now with the
print and apply system in place, the worker only has to load the
cartons onto the pallets for shipping.
